My husband's grandmother just passed away and we inherited her dining room furniture, which I have been told was purchased in the late 1920s or early 1930s. It is a Duncan Phyfe dining room table, buffet, and china cabinet. (The chairs do not belong to the set.) As you can imagine, the table needs to be cleaned. There seems to be a build up of something on approximately 80% of the table top. I do not want to refinish the table and other peices as I believe that if they were cleaned well most of the build up should come off. I have researched this subject too much and it seems that everyone has a different idea of how to handle this problem. I need to know how to clean the furniture and with what products as well as how to preserve the table in order to maintain the beauty and memories of my husbands grandparents for our son. Thanks for any help.
